Bring GOTR to Your Community
We're proud of the momentum we've created with Girls on the Run Programs in our region. We'll reach over 700 girls in 2012 and we're interested in making the program available to all girls in the greater Summit territory. Our programs are currently held at locations like schools, parks, YMCAs and community centers in Summit, Portage, Cuyahoga, Lorain & Medina counties.
If you are interested in bringing a program to your community, here's what you need to know:
Girls on the Run provides nearly everything needed to deliver the program:
- 10-week fall or spring programs for girls in either 3rd-5th grades (Girls on the Run) or 6th-8th grades (Girls on Track)
- Nationally successful Girls on the Run curriculum that's both fun and easy to implement
- Customizable registration form & marketing flyer
- All necessary program materials and supplies
- GOTR Coaches' training, background checks & CPR/First Aid training
- End-of-season 5k race (including race entry for all girls and coaches)
Each program location is required to provide the following:
- A safe, dedicated space for running for 1.5 hours twice per week for 10 weeks. THIS IS ESSENTIAL. This does not have to be a track; a field or blacktop area is fine. We prefer that the area is separate from other activities to limit distractions for the girls.
- A consistent rain location that is indoors and private. We prefer a gym or indoor space that allows for running and that is separate from other programs.
- Program support and approval from the school principal or site director
- A plan for recruiting participants
- Distribution of registration forms to all participants. Teams consist of 8-15 girls. Sites may be approved for multiple teams.
- Provide a minimum of 2-3 coaches per team for your site. Coaches must be available two times per week during the entire 10-week program (see Head Coach Description). We require 3-4 volunteer coaches per team. Girls on the Run can assist with recruiting & developing a plan for identifying more volunteer coaches ahead of the season. Coaches do not need to be runners or have coaching experience.
- A Site Liaison (see Liaison Role Description for a description of this person's role)
- Secure storage area for program supplies, snacks, etc.
